Intellispire’s shortcode engine adds wordpress style shortcode capability to any Joomla 1.5, 1.7 or 2.5 website.

After installation, go to the the Plugin Manager and find the System – Shortcodes plugin.

You can enable this to run in “content” mode (default), which pre-processes all articles before display. In Joomla! 2.5, you can also configure modules to be run this way. This is the preferred and supported option for running the engine.

Alternatively, you can set the system to run “Entire Page”. This first renders the HTML to be delivered, then processes the shortcodes. This can be faster and allows for Joomla 1.5 modules to process shortcodes, but also opens up the possibility of users being able to access your shortcodes from their content (comments, forums, etc). “Entire Page” mode may interfere with the processing the [escapesc][/escapesc] shortcode.

“Entire Page” mode is required if you want to embed shortcode directly into your template.

The only shortcode that is added by default is the [escapesc][/escapesc]. This is used to write about shortcodes themselves.

[escapesc]Embedded shortcodes like [test] will not be seen.[/escapesc]

It is highly recommended that you also install and activate the shortcode_default package (a separate zipfile). This adds the [test] shortcode, as well as giving you a place to add shortcodes that you may find on WordPress sites or otherwise that have not been packaged for Joomla!.

How to get the Plugin:

1.) Get the Joomla Shortcode Pack from the Extension Web Store
2.) Using the Joomla! extension Manager, install and activate plg_shortcodes.zip system shortcode plugin
3) Configure Options – Content Only (recommended) or “Entire Page” mode
