The easiest way to display a PDF file on your website: The PDF is loaded through Google docs and then displayed in an iframe, on your own site.

How to get the Shortcode:
1.) Get the Joomla Shortcode Pack from the Extension Web Store
2.) Using the Joomla! extension Manager, install and activate plg_shortcodes.zip system shortcode plugin
3.) Install and activate the shortcode_embedpdf.zip plugin
4.) Add the text above to any article to trigger the shortcode. Modify to your liking.

Your plugin would be a solution, but also when opening your sample page in IE9 you’ll get only a view poor empty thumbnails.

The shortcode is limited by the Google Docs viewer, which seems to have trouble with IE9.
